Celia Markovinovic named to Team Canada athletics roster for 2025 FISU Summer World University Games

RICHMOND HILL, Ont. - U SPORTS, the Canadian representative of the International University Sports Federation have announced the roster of Team Canada athletics athletes set to compete at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Summer World University Games.

The 26-person women's squad includes Warriors athlete Celia Markovinovic (Puslinch, ON/), who will compete in both the high jump and long jump events.

Markovinovic cleared 1.71m in the high jump at the University of Windsor's Can-Am Classic in January to earn herself an automatic qualification for the 2025 BioSteel U SPORTS Track & Field Championships.

Back at Windsor for the national championships in March, she won a U SPORTS silver medal with a personal best and Warriors program record 6.17m in the long jump, eclipsing the mark of 6.02 she'd set earlier in the season. She is the first Warriors female athlete to break the six-meter barrier.

Markovinovic, the 2024 Warriors Female Athlete of the Year will be joining Warriors Creative Design & Brand Specialist Steve Brooks on Team Canada, who was announced last week as part of the media team heading to Rhine-Ruhr.

Team Canada is making its return to the FISU Summer World University Games, after missing the 2023 event. The 2025 edition will be staged in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany, with athletics taking place July 21-27 in Bochum, Germany.
