The Artistic Swimming Team made a splash at last weekend's Eastern's Championships, showcasing impressive performances and remarkable teamwork. Despite being the first meet of the season, the team proved their dedication and skill, securing strong placements across both the novice and competitive categories. With standout achievements, from the Novice Duet team of Elizabeth Nigh and Leanne Schut, and solo performance from Elizabeth Nigh.
The Eastern's Championships took place over February 8 to 9th at Queen's Athletics Centre in Kingston, where they competed against other universities including Toronto, McGill, Laval, Queen's, Guelph, Western, McMaster, Sherbrooke, and Carleton.
The competition saw strong performances from both the Novice and Competitive teams. The Novice Team, made up of Leanne Schut, Elizabeth Nigh, Eden Keller, Hanna Elizondo, Sydney LeBlanc, Elizabeth Wong, and Emma Toth. The Novice Team placed 8th overall with a score of 63.7500. In addition to the team performances, Leanna Schut, Elizabeth Nigh and Eden Keller each competed in Novice solos, and Elizabeth Nigh and Leanne Schut teamed up for the Novice Duet. The Competitive Team consists of Rachel Dietrich, Katelyn Gillison, Emily Koster, and Olivia Clay, who scored 11th place with a score of 90.0500. Rachel Dietrich and Emily Koster also competing in Competitive Duet, earning 6th place with a score of 97.9325.
The Novice Duet team of Elizabeth Nigh and Leanne Schut earned first place with an impressive 126.4992 points. Elizabeth Nigh was recognized as MVP, and we are excited to see what she will achieve in future competitions. Elizabeth performance in Novice solo and placed second overall with a score of 116.0442. In the Novice Solos, Leanne Schut earned sixth place with a score of 106.2333 and Eden Keller earned seventh place with a score of 100.333.
As the first meet of the season, these exceptional performances highlight the team's commitment and the strength of their collaboration. This success across both individual and team events showcases their hard work and preparation. With Nationals in Vancouver on the horizon, the Artistic Swimming Team is ready for even greater achievements. We can't wait to see what they accomplish as they continue to refine their routines and push their limits in the coming months.
