The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Men's Fencing Championship took center stage this past weekend at the Anderson Field House in Kingston, where the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins played host to a thrilling event. Featuring 13 schools and the province's top men's university fencers, the competition showcased skill, strategy, and athleticism at its finest.
The Waterloo Warriors delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second overall in the championship and bringing home an impressive total of five medals. Their showing highlighted the depth and talent within the team, especially in the sabre category, where they emerged as a dominant force. Waterloo accounted for three of the four semi finalists in individual sabre, with Charles Wang (Vaughan, ON) securing the silver medal and Richard Yang (Markham, ON) earning bronze. The team continued their success by capturing gold in the men's team sabre event, reinforcing their strength in the discipline. Meanwhile, Jiaan Li (Markham, ON) added to the Warriors' medal haul with a bronze in individual foil, and the men's team foil squad fought hard to claim another bronze. Adding to the team's success, Daniel Manyoki (Ottawa, ON) was recognized as this year's sabre all-star after achieving the highest indicator in the team event.
The Warriors' performance at this year's OUA Men's Fencing Championship exemplified their skill, dedication, and team spirit. With five medals and a second place overall finish, the team left Kingston with plenty to celebrate. Their success not only highlights individual brilliance but also demonstrates the strength of Waterloo's fencing program as a whole.
