Lifesaving Club Earns 4th Place at Ontario Seniors & Masters Championship

The University of Waterloo Lifesaving Club made an impressive mark at the Ontario Seniors & Masters Life Saving Championship, held at the Orillia Rec Centre on March 8th and 9th, 2025. Competing against 14 other lifesaving clubs, the resolute team of just seven athletes highlighted their skills in a variety of rescue and lifesaving events. Their remarkable effort earned them 4th place overall, a testament to their hard work, determination, and teamwork.
 
The Lifesaving Club is a welcoming and dynamic team that practices and competes in Lifesaving Sport, offering three main disciplines: Lifeguarding, Pool Lifesaving, and Surf/Waterfront Lifesaving. Members can choose when and what to compete in, and the club participates in regional, provincial, national, and international events. Lifesaving Sport is an official event in the Commonwealth and World Games and is recognized by the IOC. The club emphasizes fitness, fun, teamwork, and continuous improvement in both athletic performance and lifesaving skills. All lifeguards, future lifeguards, and swimmers are encouraged to join and participate.
 
Despite the team being small, consisting of just seven athletes, they put on an outstanding performance, finishing 4th overall out of 14 competing teams. Alexa P. earned two impressive podium finishes, taking 3rd place in Women's 50 SC Meter Manikin Carry (16-19) and 2nd place in Women's 100 SC Meter Manikin LS Medley (16-19). Carter M. and Christopher L. secured 3rd place in Men's 25 SC Meter Line Throw Relay. Additionally, Alexa P. earned MVP after dominating the Women's Meter Manikin Carry and Medley and earning two podium finishes.
 
The University of Waterloo Lifesaving Club's impressive performance at the Ontario Seniors & Masters Life Saving Championship is a showcase to their dedication and skill. Finishing 4th overall with several personal bests achieved, the team showed incredible growth and determination throughout the competition. Special recognition goes out to those who supported the team, contributing to their remarkable achievement. As the club looks toward future competitions, they are excited to continue refinishing their skills, pushing for even higher ranks, and further highlighting their abilities on the national scale.
