Warriors Take Marauders to Five Sets but Fall in Playoff Battle

The Waterloo Warriors kicked off OUA playoff action this evening against the McMaster Marauders in a five set battle filled with momentum swings and standout performances.

The Warriors showcased their depth early on, with points coming from all areas of the court. Expert setting by Madison Seo (Ancaster, ON) kept the Marauders guessing, but McMaster controlled most of the opening set, capitalizing on limited errors to pull away and claim a convincing 25-12 win.

Waterloo responded with energy, determined to shift the momentum. Rachael Meilikhan (Toronto, ON) recorded back to back kills, and Madison Seo (Ancaster, ON) followed up with three service aces, putting the Warriors ahead early on. Sydney DeGraauw (Pickering, ON) played a key role in their success, helping Waterloo edge out McMaster 25-22 to even the match.

McMaster bounced back in the third set, taking control as the momentum swung once again. Sarah Hewer (Whitby, ON) delivered several big kills, helping the Marauders dominate 25-14.

The Warriors fought back with determination, pushing to force a decisive fifth set. Avery Isaacs (Calgary, AB) and Avery Kelly (Calgary, AB) were instrumental in their efforts, leading Waterloo to a hard fought 25-22 victory.

Carrying momentum into the final set, Waterloo surged ahead with the first three points. However, the Marauders responded with resilience. Stella McKenna (Calgary, AB) stepped up for the Warriors, but in a nail biting finish, McMaster prevailed 15-13, securing the playoff victory.

Despite the loss, Waterloo showcased depth, determination, and their ability to challenge a strong McMaster squad in a thrilling postseason match up.
