The 2025 OUA Badminton Championship, hosted at the Tait McKenzie Centre, brought together nine universities competing for the coveted conference title. Over three days, thrilling matches and standout performances defined the tournament, the Waterloo Warriors earned a second place finish.
Waterloo opened their campaign with a tightly contested 5-5 tie against the York Lions. A late surge by Michael Ji (Richmond Hill, ON) and Jessica Viyan Cheng (North York, ON), followed by Ashley Wong (Markham, ON) and Emily Xia (Richmond Hill, ON), helped the Warriors salvage a draw. Later in the day, Waterloo dominated TMU Bold with a flawless 10-0 victory, showcasing the team as a strong contender at the tournament.
The Warriors continued their strong play in group competition, finishing atop Pool B with an unbeaten 3-0-1 record. They wrapped up group play with commanding victories over Ottawa and Guelph, outscoring their opponents 19-1. Their stellar performance secured them a semi final berth against Western, setting the stage for championship Sunday.
In the semi finals, Waterloo powered through Western to book their spot in the gold medal match. However, the Toronto Varsity Blues proved to be a top caliber opponent, defeating the Warriors 7-1.
