Lions Defeat Warriors 3-0 in Intense Showdown

Tonight, under the lights, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the York Lions.

The first half had an even balance of possessions, and attacks as the Warriors and Lions battled. A highlight from this half was some fancy footwork by the Warriors Aya Naamani (Oakville) who displayed dangles, deking out Lions in the midfield. To conclude the half the Warriors had a big scoring chance as Tazia Lessard (St.Thomas) had a far shot that narrowly missed the top left corner.

In the opening moments of the second half, again the Warriors had another dangling highlight. Emily Henahan (Oakville) deked around three Lions solo carrying the ball over 20 yards. Goalkeeper Natalie Mouradian (Kitchener) was kept on her toes this half with many key saves including three crucial back to back blocks 10 minutes in. Late in the half, the Lions scored three back to back goals which left the match at 3-0 with no time remaining for the Warriors to bounce back. Tonight's final score misses out on telling the fullest story of the game, which needs to include the dangles, expert goalkeeping, and tenacity displayed by the Warriors.

Up next, the Warriors will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks next Friday, September 13.
