Local Rivals Draw Even in 2-2 Encounter

This Friday evening, the Waterloo Warriors were on the road though only a few blocks away as they faced off against the Laurier Golden Hawks. As the sun set, the game promised to be a thrilling local rivalry

The opening five minutes of the match had high intensity with lots of back and forth. The Warriors defense was led by goalkeeper Natalie Mouradian (Kitchener) and Victoria Chuong (Waterloo) keeping the box clear. The Warriors battled with intensity closing the half with big scoring chances from Aya Naamani (Oakville) and Paige Heide (Steinbach)

At the start of the second half, the Golden Hawks squeaked in a quick goal as the box was flooded with players and the goalkeeper had no line of sight to protect the net. This remained the sole point for nearly 20 minutes, until Aya Naamani (Oakville) was able to capitalize on a loose ball from the Golden Hawks goalie, and net a tying goal. Later on the Warriors had a free kick, well placed by Priyanka Chakravarti (Richmond Hill) and headed in perfectly by Paige Heide (Steinbach) giving the lead to the Warriors. Just nearing the conclusion of the match, the Golden Hawks secured a snipe top left that just narrowly snuck past an energetic dive by the Warriors goalkeeper.

The Warriors aim to build on their strong performance as they face off against their neighborhood rivals again on Sunday, September 15. But this time at Warrior Field.
