Box Score Tonight marked the return of Warriors Volleyball, as they took on the Guelph Gryphons on the road. Building off last season's consistency, when they posted a balanced 10-10 record, the Warriors came out strong, securing a commanding 3-0 sweep to kick off their season.
The Warriors offense was led by Rachael Meilikhan (Toronto), who delivered a standout performance with 12 kills and a service ace. Sydney DeGraauw (Pickering) was lethal from the service line, racking up five aces, while setter Madison Seo (Ancaster) orchestrated the Warriors plays smoothly, finishing the night with 25 assists and 7 digs. Adding to the excitement was first-year Stella McKenna (Calgary), who brought firepower to her debut with powerful serves and an ace of her own.
Waterloo wasted no time in the opening set, jumping to a quick 10-5 lead with an aggressive approach that kept Guelph on defense. The Gryphons pushed back to keep the game close, but the Warriors remained steady, and took the first set 25-21. In the second set, the game was more evenly matched, with both teams battling for control. The Warriors' steady play, however, saw them repeat the first set again with a 25-21 win. Waterloo came out firing in the third set, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead that set the tone. Despite efforts from Guelph to close the gap, the Warriors' consistent pressure and a late four point scoring run carried them to a decisive 25-16 finish, securing the season opening sweep.
This strong opening victory brings momentum as the Warriors prepare to face the Gryphons again tomorrow.
