Today, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the Waterloo Warriors secured their spots in the OUA Baseball Championship Final. The Varsity Blues cruised to a 15-4 win over the Queen's Gaels in the first semifinal, while the Warriors took down the Brock Badgers 12-10 in the second semifinal.
The Warriors semifinal battle was a tight contest through the first five innings. The game remained tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a strong performance by Waterloo's left handed starter
Jacob Ray (Tecumseh), who pitched five innings, struck out seven at bats, and allowed only three runs. Waterloo broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with an offensive explosion, scoring nine runs to take full control. The Badgers had a big effort in the final inning but it fell short. Today on offense the Warriors were led by
Adam Rusch (Vancouver) and
Nolan Misa (Markham). Rusch had a standout performance for Waterloo, facing three at bats and three hits. These crucial hits led to two runs scored and two runs batted in. In similar fashion Misa also picked up three hits to add to the Warriors offensive power.
The gold medal game is set for tomorrow, Saturday, October 12, with the Waterloo Warriors taking on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at 1:00 p.m. at the Ajax Sportsplex.
