Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Warriors extend win streak to 5 with road wins over Gaels and Ridgebacks

Coming off an emotionally high week where Waterloo played a pair of home games at neutral sites last week, you would think the Warriors would have hit a bit of a wall going into a tough road trip out east against Queen's and Ontario Tech. You would think, but this team is built different and came away with not only a pair of victories, but both in convincing fashion outscoring their opponents 9-2 to extend their win streak to five games and push their incredible record to 18-4-0 on the season, good for top spot in the OUA west.

On Saturday in Kingston, Waterloo allowed the first goal just 31 seconds into the opening period but came back with six unanswered goals to earn a convincing 6-1 win over the Queen's Gaels. Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) was brilliant in net making 29 big saves for her 11th win of the season. Mark now has 1.62 goals against average and .935 save percentage. Scoring for the Warriors was Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON/), Tatum James (Stratford, ON/), Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) with two, Madison Prtichard and Carly Orth (Caledon, ON/). Olivier and Herrfort who were both back in action after winning gold with Team Canada at the FISU Games, each tallied three points in the victory, while Orth and Pritchard each had two with a goal and assist.

On Sunday, it was Waterloo newcomer Carley Molnar (London) between the pipes, making 28 stops for her second victory in as many tries this season as Waterloo defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 3-1. Both of Molnars wins have come against the Ridgebacks. Jessie Fennel scored her first of the season midway through the second period 9:42 while Olivier scored just eight seconds later to put Waterloo up 2-1. The Ridgebacks got one back early in the third, but Waterloo shut it down the rest of the way and Olivier added an empty netter with her third goal of the weekend to ice the game for the black and gold.
The first place Warriors will now travel to Windsor on Friday night to battle the Lancers at 7:30pm before returning to the CIF Arena for the first time since January 14 to battle the Western Mustangs. Puck drop is set for 7pm and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
