Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Warriors shine bright on Hockey Day in Canada

The Warriors capped off a memorable week on Saturday in Owen Sound with a solid 3-0 shutout win over the Guelph Gryphons. Following a fantastic showing at the Battle of the Aud on Wednesday, the Warriors traveled up to Owen Sound to take part in the Hockey Day in Canada festivities, including several visits with local girls minor league teams and other community outreach initiatives aimed at growing girls hockey. Waterloo then put together a masterful 60 minutes to put the cherry on top of an outstanding week for the women's hockey team.

In the opening frame, Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) was steady as ever in the opening 10 minutes as Guelph put the first four shots on net before Waterloo's first shot of the game found the back of the net. Lyndsy Acheson (Summerland, BC/) circled up high before firing a backhand pass to Elizabeth Lenardon (Kelowna, BC/) who turned and fired a shot on her backhand past Gryphons keeper Martina Fedel.
The goal shifted the momentum in Waterloo's favour as they made it 2-0 off a beautiful passing play between Andrea Murray (Mississauga, ON/), Madison Pritchard (Richards Landing, ON/) and Lenardon. Murray finished off the beautiful play with her first career goal.
In the second, Waterloo added a big insurance marker as OUA leading scorer Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) fired home a rebound off the back boards on the powerplay. The Warriors locked it down the rest of the way with strong defensive play and sound goaltending from Mark to secure their 16th win of the season. The No. 8 Warriors are now 16-4-0 on the season, five points ahead of second place Guelph in the West.
The Warriors will now travel east to face Queen's and Ontario Tech next weekend.
