Men's volleyball is finding their stride at the right time with their third win in four matches as they earned an impressive come from behind win over Guelph on Saturday night at the PAC. In a match that lasted nearly 2.5 hours and ended just before 11pm, was highlighted by a resilient effort that saw the black and gold bounce back from 2 sets to 1 down to win in five.
Guelph took a 2-1 set lead on a marathon set that never seemed like it would finish as the Gryphons won it 38-36. Although thet marathon set loss was a blow to Waterloo, the guys bounced back in a big way winning the next two sets 25-20, 15-7 to earn a thrilling five set win.Â
Leading the way for Waterloo was
Liam MacArthur (Cambridge, ON/) who had a brilliant night with 29 points on 28 kills and two assisted blocks. He also added 10 digs in the win.
Ben Newell (Brussels, ON/) was also stellar with 19 points on 17 kills and two blocks.
Noel Campfens (Toronto, On/) (17.5 pts),
Siraj Khanna (Surrey, BC/) (14 pts), and
Fehin Awobodu (Oakville, ON/) (12.5 pts) rounded out Waterloo's attack while
Logan Wenzel (Salt Spring Island, BC/) was on point with an astounding 72 assists in the win. Defensively, Campfens, Newell, and Wenzel combined for 24 digs.
Waterloo will now travel to Peterborough next Saturday for a double header with the Trent Excalibur. Â
