Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Raitt on time! Warriors earn thrilling Battle at the Aud win in OT

It was a night to remember for Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, ON/) and the women's hockey team on Wednesday night at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. In what was the first Battle of Waterloo at the Aud since 2020, the Warriors and Golden Hawks put on a show in front of over 800 fans. The night was capped off by a highlight-reel goal from Raitt who deked around Hawks' netminder Acadia Carlson to secure the 15th win of the season for the black and gold. Waterloo is now 15-4-0 on the season, two points clear of Guelph for first in the OUA West.

After a scoreless first period where both teams were searching for their legs in a new environment, both teams came out with more jump in the second and Waterloo found the early edge off the stick of Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) with her 11th of the season on the powerplay. James picked up a loose puck in the slot after a Raitt point shot and made no mistakes to put the home side up 1-0. Waterloo made it two goal advantage with under two minutes remaining in the middle frame as Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener, ON/) batted home a rebound in the slot. Raitt picked up her second helper of the game on the goal while Emma Cheesman earned the second assist.

Seemingly in control of the game, the Warriors got themselves into some penalty trouble in the third and Laurier took full advantage with two powerplay markers in a span of just over six minutes. Chloe Davidson and Olivia MacMillan both found the back of the net to even the game at two's. Neither team could find the go ahead goal in the final ten minutes of the third and the game would head to overtime.

Just two minutes into the extra frame, Raitt was sprung free from Carly Orth (Caledon, ON/) at Waterloo's own blueline. Raitt made no mistake on the beautiful breakaway move to secure the extra point for the Warriors in the 3-2 overtime win.

Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) was solid in net making 21 stops while Carlson was the busier of the two goalies with 30 stops.

Waterloo will now prepare for their next game, another exciting opportunity for Waterloo to show off their talent as they battle the Guelph Gryphons in Owen Sound as part of Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday. Puck drops at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena at 2:30pm.
