It was a battle between two of the top teams in the OUA on Saturday night as the Warriors and Nipissing Lakers went toe-to-toe at the CIF. It was a back and forth affair all game long that would see extra time.
Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) fired in her second of the game in OT to secure the extra point for the Warriors. With the win, Waterloo improved to 14-4-0 on the season while Nipissing fell to 12-2-2. Waterloo remains in first in the OUA West, one point ahead of second place Windsor while the Lakers sit in second in the OUA East, nine back of Toronto.
Malory Dominico opened the scoring for Nipissing at 15:07 of the first to give her Lakers a 1-0 lead after 20. James found the back of the net with her ninth of the season just 6:37 into the second before
Kassidy McCarthy (Bowmanville, ON/) buried her sixth of the season with just under two minutes remaining in the second to give Waterloo the 2-1 lead after 40.
Nipissing found the only goal of the third period to send the game into overtime tied at 2's. In the extra frame, it took Waterloo just 56 seconds as
Trisha Cho (Mississauga, ON/) slid over a perfect pass to James who one-timed in her 10th of the season to give the Warriors the victory.
Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) stopped 24 of 26 shots for 8th win of the season. Mark now has an impressive 1.79 GAA and .929 save percentage.
