The Warriors resumed their 2021-22 season on the weekend and picked up where they left off with two big wins over crosstown rivals Laurier to remain undefeated on the season. Waterloo finished their season series with the Golden Hawks with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
The Warriors picked up their first win on Friday night at the Rec Complex skating away with a 1-0 victory.
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/) was perfect making 16 saves for her third shutout of the season. The only goal the Warriors needed was a powerplay marker from
Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, ON/) with assists coming from
Sarah Rettinger (Kitchener, ON/) and
Trisha Cho (Mississauga, ON/).
On Saturday, the black and gold were back on home ice and took care of business, again blanking the Golden Hawks, this time by a score of 3-0. It was a pair of firsts for Waterloo as
Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) and
Kassidy McCarthy (Bowmanville, ON/) both tallied their first career goals while
Carley Olivier (Sudbury/) iced the game with her team leading third goal and eighth point of the season.
After a scoreless first period James tipped in an Olivier point shot to put the Warriors up 1-0. Just two minutes later, McCarthy came around the back of the net on the penalty kick and shot it short side past Laurier keeper Cohen Myers to give Waterloo a two point cushion.
Olivier sealed the game with an empty netter while Schnarr shut the door with 13 stops, giving her five shutouts in her eight starts.
The Warriors will be back in action this weekend with a home and home against Windsor. Friday night the puck drops at 7pm at the CIF Arena while Saturday the action gets started at 7:30pm in Windsor.
