There is no hotter team in the OUA than the Waterloo Warriors women's hockey team. With two more wins on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon, The No. 7 Warriors remain undefeated with six wins and a 5-0-1-0 record.
On Thursday night, Waterloo and the TMU Bold battled back and forth all game long with the only two goals coming in the middle frame. Brooklyn Gemmill broke the goose egg midway through the second before
Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) answered for the Warriors with her second of the season. With nothing happening in the third, the two went to 3-on-3 OT where Waterloo wasted absolutely no time earning the second point as James won the faceoff, skated down and slid a perfect pass across to
Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) who deflected it in on the backhand. The winning goal came just nine seconds into OT. In net
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/) made 19 stops for the win.
On Sunday, the Warriors welcomed another team from the 6 as the black and gold made it six straight wins to open the season, skating past the York Lion by a final score of 4-1.
Megan Dyck (Victoria, BC/) opened the scoring for Waterloo just 2:03 into the game before York tied it up 24 seconds later.
Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) made it a 2-1 Warriors lead later in the first with her first of two in the game on the powerplay to give Waterloo a 2-1 lead into the second.
Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) added to Waterloo's lead with her league leading seventh goal of the season on a beautiful deflection from a perfect pass across from
Emma Cheeseman (Waterloo, ON/). James put the game away with a perfect shot to the top corner pass the blocker of Juliana Thomson for her fourth of the season. Between the pipes,
Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) picked up her second win of the season turning aside 22 shots.
James and Herrfort have been on an absolute tear to start the season with 11 points each to sit atop the OUA leaderboard. Herrfort had two goals and three assists in the two wins while James had two goals and two assists.
Waterloo will now start a three game road trip first at TMU on Friday and then in London against Western on Saturday looking to extend their win streak to eight.
