Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

No. 10 Warriors double up on No. 4 Blues in home opener

The No. 10 ranked women's hockey team played host to the No. 4 Toronto Varsity Blues in their home opener on Saturday afternoon at the CIF Arena, skating away with a big 4-2 win to improve to 2-0-0 on the young OUA season.

Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, ON/) opened the scoring for the home side midway through the first period, slipping a goal mouth scramble past Blues netminder Erica Fryer, for her second of the season.

Waterloo would take their 1-0 lead into the second period before Toronto scored twice in a span of 2:21 to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Warriors however would battle back as Paige Rynne (Ancaster, ON/) batted home a loose puck in the slot for her first career goal in the black and gold.

Tied at 2's heading into the final frame, the Warriors came out flying in the third and regained their lead just 53 seconds in as Leah Herffort wired a beautiful shot from the far wing past the glove of Fryer.

Up 3-2 for the majority of the final frame, Waterloo found the insurance marker they needed as Raitt slid a seeing eye shot along the ice from the slot that eluded Fryer and Waterloo would skate away with a solid home opening 4-2 victory.

In net, Mikaya Schnarr was very solid turning aside 31 of 33 shots faced including nine key stops in the third.

Waterloo will now look ahead to two quick road trips this weekend across the street at Laurier. Friday night goes at 7:00pm and Saturday at 3:30, both played at the Memorial Recreation Complex.
