For the second time in two years, the Warriors are adding National Team pedigree to their pitching staff.
Last year, the Warriors added one of the top arms in the OUA, landing former Canadian Junior National Team starter Jake English (London). This year, they've added another Junior National Team Alumni with the addition of hard-throwing righty Daniel Marquez (Cambridge).
Daniel joins the Warriors after spending time at the University of Evansville (NCAA D1) and Humber College. In his short time at Humber, Marquez made his mark on their record book tossing the program's second no-hitter in team history.
"There is no question that his experience with the JNT, at Evansville, and in the Intercounty Baseball League will help him have an impact on our player group. Daniel also played with a great OCAA program with Humber, and I expect that he'll turn some heads in the 2021 season," reports Head Coach
Ben Norris. "Daniel has taken some time to explore opportunities outside the game after turning down a roster spot with Los Bravos de Leon of the Mexican Professional League in 2019. We think that time away, coupled with his work ethic and the chance to work with Dr. Andrew Robb and our coaching staff will really help him become a weapon for us."
The 6'2", 215lb Marquez has been clocked as high as 93 MPH on the mound, but should sit comfortably in the high 80s-to-90 MPH range with his 4-seam fastball. He also has a 2-seam fastball with good life, a hammer 12-6 curveball, and a splitter.
"I'm excited to join the Warriors because I've seen the rapid growth they've had in their program the last year or two," Marquez said of the new opportunity. "It will be cool to give back, to be a part of continuing that growth, and to compete for championships while I'm there. The University of Waterloo is recognized all around the world, so I'm really thrilled to be pursuing my passion for entrepreneurship in the Environment and Business program at Waterloo.
