Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Warriors earn 4 of 6 points from Mustangs, head into break 5-0-1

The Warriors women's hockey team faced off against the Western Mustangs in a home and home this weekend coming away with four out of a possible six points.

On Friday night at the CIF Arena, the Warriors blanked the Mustangs 3-0 as three first year members of the team found the net while Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/) made 20 stops. On Saturday Western handed Waterloo their first defeat of the season, getting past the Warriors 3-2 in overtime. Despite the loss, Waterloo remains undefeated in regulation this season with a 5-0-1 record and sit atop the OUA west standings with 15 points.

On Friday night, Keira Raitt opened the scoring after a nice drop pass from Liz Lenardon. Raitt took the feed at the top of the circle and ripped the shot past Kaitlyn Booth. The Warriors would head into the first intermission up one.

In the second period just 1:38 in, Megan Fergusson (Kitchener, ON/) tipped in a Trisha Cho (Mississauga, ON/) shot to put the Warriors up 2-0. The Warriors went up 3-0 eight minutes later as Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) put home her third of the season. Krystin Lawrence (Tecumseh, ON/) made a beautiful move along the far side boards and slid a perfect pass over to Herrfort who redirected the puck home.

Neither team found any goals in the final 20 and Waterloo would cruise to the finish line with the 3-0 win.

On Saturday night, Western jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Carley Olivier (Sudbury/) blasted home two point shots to even the game at 2's.

Tied at 2 the game went into overtime where Hannah Irwin found herself alone on Schnarr and made no mistake with the nice move to give Western the 3-2 overtime win.

The game was the 100th career regular season OUA game for senior Krystin Lawrence (Tecumseh, ON/) who picked up an assist on Olivier's second tally.

The Warriors will now enjoy the holiday break before they get back to it with an exhibition game against Ontario Tech on January 8 at 2:30pm. Their regular season resumes with a home game on Friday, January 14 against Brock at 7pm.
