Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late push falls short as Warriors split season series with Lancers

A fourth quarter surge came too little to late for the Warriors on Saturday evening as they dropped their first road contest of the season falling 83-75 to the Windsor Lancers. Trailing for most of the contest, the Warriors were able to weather the storm and keep Windsor within striking distance until the latter stages of the fourth quarter.

The black and gold found themselves bouncing back from an early 8-2 run by the Lancers to start the game. Former Windsor Lancer Kanayo Nnadi (Kitchener, ON/Eastwood Collegiate) had an excellent start to the game with seven points in the opening frame, but it was fifth year guard Jayden Grewal (Oakville, ON/Kings Christian Collegiate) providing a spark off the bench with eight of his team high 23 points coming in the first quarter.

The Warriors found themselves in a similar spot as Wednesday night, stuck only two going into the second half, and only down four going into the final frame, however some clutch free throw shooting by the Lancers down the stretch put the game out of reach and handed Waterloo their first regular season loss of the 2021-2022 campaign.

Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo, ON/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) was once again outstanding for the Warriors scoring 18 points while grabbing a monstrous 18 rebounds. Justin Malnerich (Cambridge, ON/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary) continued to connect from behind the arc as well splashing home three three-point shots on route to his second consecutive double digit scoring performance with 12.

The Warriors will look to get back into the win column this coming weekend as they travel to London to face the Western Mustangs in the first game of their back-to-back matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm at Alumni Hall. The Warriors will then host the Mustangs on Saturday, November 20th at 6pm at the Physical Activities Complex.
