It was a back and forth affair at the CIF Arena on Saturday night but a beautiful
Krystin Lawrence (Tecumseh, ON/) goal at 10:59 of the third period held up as the game winner to keep the Warriors' record a perfect 4-0-0 on the young OUA season.
Waterloo opened the scoring 5:23 into the opening period on a powerplay as
Elizabeth Lenardon (Kelowna, BC/) snapped in a loose puck in the slot after it banked off the skate of
Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/). Lawrence earned the second helper on the game's opening goal.
Just two minutes later, the black and gold went up by two with another powerplay marker as
Megan Fergusson (Kitchener, ON/) snuck in a goal mouth goal past Guelph keeper Kathryn Raymond. Lawrence picked up her second helper on the goal while
Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON) was also in on the goal with her sixth apple of the season.
Guelph however got one back just one minute later to make it a 2-1 game in favour of the Warriors into the middle frame.
After a scoreless second period, Guelph found the equalizer at 7:04 of the third as Lauren Ianni got one past
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/).
Just two minutes later, Waterloo again retook the lead as
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener, ON/) batted home a loose puck just out front of Raymond to put the Warriors up 3-2. Defenders
Selena Dirven (Watford, ON/) and
Jessie Fennell (Fonthill, ON/) picked up the helpers on the Cole goal.
Waterloo added an insurance marker on a gorgeous give and go tally between Lawrence and Fergusson that would stand up as the eventual winner after Guelph potted one late in the period.
Lawrence led the way with a three point performance while Schnarr made key saves down the stretch to secure the three points for Waterloo who now have 11 points and sit atop the OUA west.
The Warriors will now enjoy their bye week riding a four game win streak before closing out 2021 with a home and home against the Western Mustangs on Friday, November 26 at the CIF Arena and Saturday, November 27 in London.
