Warriors Baseball lands another impact bat in local standout, Spencer Voisin

Story By: Daniel Liargovas

The Warriors Baseball program has started their 2021 recruiting class off with a bang, proudly announcing the commitment of left-handed hitting outfielder, Spencer Voisin.

Voisin, a Kitchener-native, played his travel ball for the Ontario Nationals of the CPBL while attending Resurrection Catholic Secondary School. Prep Baseball Report Ontario, a national amateur scouting service for draft-eligible athletes had Voisin ranked as one of their top 10 outfielders in the 2020 class, and his impact with the Warriors should be immediate.

Jesse Levine, Coordinator of Baseball Operations and Scouting shared his perspective of the type of player Voisin could be, noting that "Voisin is a guy who has shown the ability to hit and will continue to do so at the OUA level. It is a strong, left-handed bat, which is always a plus. His swing works with quickness, he uses the whole field, and has a sound approach in which he stays within himself."

Warriors Head Coach Ben Norris is also excited about the new addition. "Spencer will be a really good OUA player. He's competitive, a strong athlete with loads of talent, and will be expected to come in and help contribute offensively in what should be a deep lineup."

After previously committing to a strong NJCAA D1 program in Texas, Voisin opted to shift gears to study and play with the Warriors, noting that the quality of the baseball program and the outstanding reputation of the University of Waterloo played a large role in his decision. When asked why he was excited to join the Warriors program, Voisin had this to say:

"I have grown up around the corner from the campus my whole life and heard great things about the potential of their baseball program and how committed the coaching staff is to creating a competitive baseball team. I'm looking forward to sharing my skills and helping push the Warriors to an OUA championship."

Voisin gave a lot of credit to his family and past coaches that helped him throughout his baseball career. "I'd like to thank my coaches in the Ontario Nationals organization. Without your instruction and dedication I would not be the baseball player I am today. The gifted baseball minds of coaches such as Shawn Gillespie and Dan Mendham helped mold my hitting into the tool that it is today. Without coaches like them, baseball in Ontario wouldn't be as fruitful as it is today, and I appreciate all the time they put in with me and with my peers" said Voisin.

With a quick start to the offseason, the Warriors expect to see continued growth through internal development and another strong recruiting class for 2021.
