The New Year struggled continued for the women's hockey team this weekend with a pair of losses to UOIT and Queen's.
On Friday afternoon, UOIT and Waterloo played a relatively even game until late in the second when the Ridgebacks went up 2-1 and then scored two more in the third to take out the Warriors 4-1.
Selena Dirven (Watford/) scored the lone goal of the game while
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) and
Jessie Fennell (Fonthill/) picked up the helpers.
Alysha Letwin (Barrie/) allowed four goals on 19 shots in the loss.
On Saturday, Waterloo played a much stronger game and took the Gaels into overtime but could only manage to come away with the single point as Caroline DeBruin scored the OT winner 2:18 into the extra frame to sink the Warriors by a score of 3-2.
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) and
Sarah Rettinger (Kitchener/) found the net for the Warriors while Clairmont, Dirven,
Hannah Street (Shoal Lake/) and
Dollee Meigs (Owen Sound/) all picked up assists on the Warrior tallies.
Waterloo is now 10-6-4 on the season with 33 points and tied for seventh with Brock in the tight OUA standings. Their next game goes Saturday at 2:30 against the visiting Ryerson Rams before they travel to London to face Western on Sunday.
