The men's volleyball team picked up a big 3-0 win over the visiting Guelph Gryphons on Sunday night at the PAC. With the win Waterloo moved to 6-8 on the season and are now just four points back of Guelph (8-6) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the OUA west.
Waterloo controlled the opening two sets out attacking the Gryphons 26 to 18. The third set was much more tightly contested but Waterloo got a couple key kills from
Nolan Spencer (Kitchener/) and
Deman Dulat (Mississauga/) to close it out 26-24 and take the match 3-0.
Dulat and Spencer led the way with 12 points each while
Matthew Mawdsley (London/) had 8.5. Dulat put down 10 kills and added two blocks, one service ace and four digs while Spencer had nine kills, two aces and two blocks.
Rookie outside
Bennett Newell (Brussels/) and second year middle
Jacob Nesbitt (Wakefield/) rounded out Waterloo's attack with seven kills each.
Setter
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/) finished with a game high 32 assists to give him 460 on the year.
Waterloo will close out their home portion of the schedule this Friday night against Brock at 8pm before two big road matches the following weekend at Western (Feb. 22) and Windsor (Feb. 24).
