Women's volleyball dropped a heartbreaking 5-setter to the McMaster Marauder, one night after a thrilling 5-set win over Brock at the PAC.
The Warriors were up 19-14 and then 24-22 in the fourth set over the Marauders as they looked to close out the match but McMaster tallied four straight points to take the fourth 26-24 and send the match to a fifth set.
In the final set, McMaster continued their momentum jumping out to a 12-3 lead. The Warriors showed their fight, winning seven of the next eight points to cut the lead down to 13-10 for Mac but it was too little too late as the Marauders held on to win the set 15-12, and the match 3-2.
Sarah Glynn (Fredericton/) was again outstanding with 26 points on 22 kills, two service aces and two blocks. She also added 12 digs in the match. Glynn now leads the OUA in kills with 133 and is second in kills per set at 3.91.
Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown/) had another strong game with 12 kills while
Ella Stewart (Ottawa/) and
Serena Otshudi (Stoney Creek/) had 11 each. The two middles also combined for seven blocks with Stewart earning four and Otshudi three. Otshudi sits second in the OUA in blocks per set at 1.09.
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) added to her assist total with 51 more in a strong losing effort. Gagne leads the OUA in assists per set at 9.38.
Defensively it was a collective effort as Gagne, Vallee, and
Jenna Gravina (Burlington/) each earned 15 digs.
The Warriors now head into the Holiday Break with a 4-4 record, tie for third in the OUA with eight points. They kick-off the New Year with two road games at York (Jan. 11) and Nipissing (Jan. 12) before returning to the PAC on January 18 with a double set against Lakehead.
