Men's basketball was finally back on their home court as they took on Laurentian on Friday night in their home opener followed by a tilt with Nipissing on Saturday.

The Warriors would drop the games by a combined seven points in two very tightly contested games.

On Friday, Laurentian led from start to finish but the Warriors made a strong push at the end and got the game to within two thanks to some big 3-pointers from Justin Malnerich (Cambridge/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary) and Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) but it wasn't enough as the black and gold fell by a score of 80-75. The Warriors kept the reigning MVP Kadre Gray in check for the majority of the game, especially in the first half allowing just five points from the star guard. He went on to finish with 17 in the win.

Waterloo was led by Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) who had 23 points while Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) put up 20 and added 11 rebounds. Jayden Grewal (Oakville/Kings Christian Collegiate) had 11 while Justin Malnerich (Cambridge/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary) and Kuel Thomas (Kitchener/Huron Heights Secondary) each had 10.

On Saturday, Nipissing and the Warriors went back and forth all game long with the biggest lead held by the Warriors at nine in the second quarter but the Lakers stuck around and outscored Waterloo 28-23 in the final quarter to sneak past the Warriors 70-68.

Hodzic led his team in scoring with 16 points while Petrov and Grewal each had 14. On the glass Hodzic was again in double digits with 12 while Petrov had 10.

The Warriors will have a quick turn around as they prepare to face Western on Wednesday at 7pm at the PAC.
