A pair of rookies scored their first career goals as the Warriors took out the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-1 in overtime in their home opener on Thursday night at the CIF Arena.
Madison Pritchard (Richards Landing/) scored just 12:59 into the opening period to give her Warriors a 1-0 lead through 20.
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) and
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener/) picked up the helpers on Pritchard's first of her career.
Laurier found the equalizer at the 15:10 mark of the middle frame as Jaden Head found herself alone in front of the net and fired the backhand passed
Alysha Letwin (Barrie/).
The game would head to OT despite Waterloo's late pressure, where the black and gold registered the final eight shots of the 3rd period.
In overtime,
Jayda Sachs (Warman/) caught up to a clearing pass from Trisha Ho and made a beautiful move on to her forehand to lift the Warriors to the 2-1 victory.
Letwin earned the win, stopping 20 of 21 shots while Cohen Myers was the busier of the two goalies, with 33 saves.
