Men's volleyball picked up two crucial home wins to get within one game of the .500 mark at 5-6 this weekend, beating York 3-2 and Nipissing 3-0.
On Saturday afternoon, Waterloo and York went back and forth all match long before the Warriors put the throttle down in the fifth set, winning it 15-7 to claim the match 3-2.
Statistically it was a very evenly played match with Waterloo putting down 50 kills compared to 47 for York while the Warriors had 19 team blocks to York's 14.
Rookie outside
Nolan Spencer (Kitchener/) led the way with 18 points on 15 kills, four assisted blocks and one service ace.
Deman Dulat (Mississauga/) was big in the win also, especially in the final two sets and went on to finish with 17 points.
Kevin LeBreux (Cumberland/) had 13 points while
Matthew Mawdsley (London/) had 10.5 including five blocks to round out Waterloo's attack.
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/) was stellar in the win with 37 assists.
On Sunday, Waterloo controlled the visiting Nipissing Lakers from start to finish for the straight set (20, 21, 13) victory.
LeBreux and Dulat each had 11 kills while Spencer put down six. Guyn put up 33 assists, giving him 337 on the season.
Waterloo will look to move to .500 next weekend when they face McMaster on Saturday at 8pm.
