Men's volleyball opened up what will be an extremely busy 2019 with a pair of road games against Trent and Toronto. Waterloo came away with a 1-1 record topping Trent in four sets before falling to Toronto on Sunday by a score of 3-1.
In Peterborough on Saturday, Waterloo dropped the first set 22-25 before winning the next three 29-27, 25-13, 28-26.
The Warriors were led by
Kevin LeBreux (Cumberland/) with 13.5 points on 11 kills, two service aces and one block.
Bennett Newell (Brussels/) was next with 13 points while
Jacob Nesbitt (Wakefield/) had 12.
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/)Â was on point with 43 assists in Waterloo's second win of the season.
Defensively
Waylon Chen (Markham/) was feeling good to kick off the New Year with a game high 12 digs.Â
On Sunday, Waterloo was up against the 7-3 Varsity Blues and came up short in four sets.
Toronto took a 2-0 lead before bouncing back to make it a game, winning the third 25-18. The Blues then took the momentum back winning the fourth set 25-16 and match 3-1.
Deman Dulat (Mississauga/) had a nice game with 10 kills while LeBreux and
Nolan Spencer (Kitchener/) each put away seven. Guyn finished with 22 assists giving him 65 on the weekend, while also collecting a game high 12 digs.
Waterloo moved to 2-5 on the weekend and sit in last in the OUA west with four points but have four games in hand on three of the five teams in the west and have plenty of time to make a move in the standings.
