The Warriors had a slow start but came on strong in a hard fought 2-0 loss to the Queen's Gales in game one of the OUA quarter-finals.
Waterloo could only muster four shots in the opening frame while the Gaels put eight on
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton/).
From there the black and gold picked up their play, shifting the momentum in their favour but the Gaels quickly put a halt to that, scoring the games first goal as Brigid Goris found the loose puck in the slot and fired it past Sluys, giving her Gaels a 1-0 lead. The goal came at 2:18 of the second period.
Waterloo had several chances to tie the game including a couple off the stick of
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo/) who appeared to tie it but the goal was called back on a high stick.
Marriott had another golden opportunity to even the game, making a nice move in the slot and looking for the five hole but the Gaels goalie Stephanie Pascal quickly closed the hole to keep it a 1-0 game. Under a minute later, Queen's padded their lead as Emily Gervais came down the far side and fired a slapper past Sluys to give Queen's a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Neither team could find the net despite Waterloo putting on their most pressure with 11 shots on Pascal.
Sluys made 27 stops on 29 shots while Pascal picked up a 22 save shutout.
Game two goes Friday night in Kingston at 7pm with game three scheduled for Saturday if Waterloo can escape with the victory on Friday.
