Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors swept by No. 8 Marauders

It's been just under two months since the last regular season match for the men's volleyball program and the black and gold weren't handed any favours on Saturday having to play the No. 8 team in the country, McMaster.

The Warriors got off to a slow start dropping the opening set 25-15 but battled McMaster every step of the way in the second set.

The Warriors were down by as many as six in that set but clawed their way back. Unfortunately for the home side McMaster escaped with the 27-25 victory to take a strangle hold on the match. Waterloo would run out of steam in the third dropping it 25-16, to lose the match in three.

The Warriors were led by Braden Cok (Waterloo/) who had 8.5 points on 8 kills and one block.  Aidan Simone (London/) finished with 8 points while Matthew Mawdsley (London/) and Jordan McConkey (Stratford/) each put up 4.5 points. At the net Mawdsley led the way with three blocks. Rookie setter Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/) had a solid game finishing with 19 assists and five digs.

For McMaster it was Brandon Koppers leading all players in kills with 13 while Matt Passalent had 12. Setter David Doty put up a solid 35 assists in the win.

Waterloo will now prepare for a big home and home with Guelph which kicks off this Friday in Guelph. The Warriors at 4-6 will need a couple of wins to get themselves more comfortably in the playoff picture with Guelph chasing them down at 4-7.
