Members of table tennis club compete for Canada at World University Games

Members of the table tennis club Yen-Chen Lu and Betty Guo went on the adventure of a lifetime this summer.  The table tennis stars were part of team Canada at the 2017 Summer Universiade (World University  Games) in Taipei City, Taiwan last month.

The duo who were able to compete through the support of the Athletics Excellence Fund, got to take in the opening ceremonies designed with elements of energy, sportsmanship and Taiwanese culture and then took two days to prepare for their competition with a local table tennis club, Songsang Junior High school.

In the actual competition the two teamed up for mixed doubles and made it all the way to the round of 32, losing to the North Korean pair who made it all the way to the quarterfinals.

"It was an incredible experience and New Taipei City is so beautiful to explore and see and we are very fortunate to have had the chance to compete on one of the world's biggest stages," said Lu.  "We are very thankful for the support of the University and the Department of Athletics and now have memories for a lifetime."
