Rookie point guard
Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had the best game of his young career on Wednesday night putting up 29 points as the Warriors won big, 96-77 over the Western Mustangs, their second straight road win. Senior
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia/Sarnia Northern) was also on fire, tallying 27 points in the victory.
"We got off to a slow start but picked it up in the second quarter and began to play our game," said head coach
Justin Gunter. "Petrov and Ravenhorst were outstanding for us tonight making smart plays and hitting key shots when we needed them."
Petrov went 11-for-18 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line, and collected five rebounds and three assists in 39 minutes. Ravenhorst was as impressive, going 11-for-15 with five from downtown while adding eight rebounds and one assist in 36 minutes of action.Â
Also getting in on the offence was rookie forward
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) who had 18 points and
Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) with 13.
Waterloo shot a sizzling 50.6% from the field in this game with nine coming from beyond the arc. They were also big on the boards with 51 rebounds compared to just 30 for the Mustangs.Â
Mike Pereira (Kitchener/Resurrection Secondary) led Waterloo on the glass with 14 boards.
Waterloo used a big second half, outscoring Western 55 to 38 en route to the 19 point victory.Â
The win moves Waterloo into a tie for third in the OUA west with 10 points with three games remaining.Â
The Warriors will need to win two of three down the stretch and get some help if they hope to see post-season action.
Waterloo's next contest comes on Saturday as they host the Windsor Lancers in their final home game of the season. The PAC is expected to be rocking as it's the 18
th annual Fantastic Alumni Day. Â
