Rams score 4 unanswered to spoil Senior Day

Box Score The Ryerson Rams scored four goals in the final eight minutes to defeat the Warriors 6-2 on Senior Day at the CIF Arena on Saturday afternoon.  After Waterloo tied it up early in the final frame, the black and gold gave up three odd-man rushes and the Rams made the Warriors pay on all three occasions.

With the loss Waterloo fell to 13-8-2 but still have their playoff fate in their hands as a win gets them into the fourth spot giving them home ice advantage.

Ryerson opened the scoring in the first period as Michelle Evagelou got one past Taylor Reimer (Morden) at 10:07.  Before the period came to an end, the Rams made it 2-0 as a seeing-eye shot from Lauren Nicholson eluded Reimer.

The Warriors would cut into the lead in the second as Rachel Marriott (Waterloo) cut in on the backhand and potted her ninth of the season.  The play was set up nicely by Samantha Burbridge (Brantford).

The game would head into the third with the Rams up 2-1 but Waterloo found the equalizer as senior Rebecca Rutherford (Ajax) netted her third of the season in her last regular season home game in the black and gold.  Rutherford banged in her own rebound following a smooth feed from Amy Barnard (Cambridge).

Tied at two it looked as if the two combatants were headed for a tight finish before Ryerson took over the game with four straight goals including an empty netter to seal the victory.

Prior to the game Waterloo honoured eight graduating seniors who have made an incredible impact on the program and have paved a bright future for years to come.

Carolyn Burke (Mississauga), Jamie Grove (Kelowna), Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver), Leah Komer (London), Lindsey McDonald (Ajax), Marissa Redmond (Ajax), Rebecca Rutherford (Ajax), and Michelle Tanel (Toronto) were the original members of Shaun Reagan's rebuild making it an emotional ceremony for him and his staff.  Thank you to these incredible student-athletes as well as therapists Laren Bott and Tori Goodwin for their dedication to the Warriors.

Waterloo will now turn their attention to a big contest tomorrow in Oshawa as they take on the UOIT Ridgebacks.  With playoff position on the line, the black and gold will be looking for nothing short of three points.
