Two defenders and two offensive Warriors were named OUA all-rookies by the league office on Tuesday afternoon as the Waterloo football program continues to push out young talent.
Twin brothers
Tre Ford (Niagara Falls/) and
Tyrell Ford (Niagara Falls/) took the league by storm and were no surprises cracking the list while offensive lineman
Spencer Andrews (Waterloo/) and defensive lineman
Michael Perak (Kitchener/) also earned spots.
Quarterback
Tre Ford (Niagara Falls/) was an electric force for Waterloo's offence putting up 717 rushing yards in seven games. His 102 rushing yards per game was the fifth most in the province. In the air, Ford was just as effective going 48-for-72 for a 66.7 completion percentage, the highest in the league. Overall Tre finished with 96.1 yards per game, the 12th most in OUA. Tre will be a heavy favourite to win the Norm Marshall Trophy as OUA Rookie of the Year.
Defensive back
Tyrell Ford (Niagara Falls/) was a force in the back field with 27 solo tackles but was also a key part in setting up Waterloo's offence, obtaining good field position with kick returns. Tyrell racked up an incredible 772 yards with 538 coming off punts (first in OUA) and 234 on kick returns. Tyrell made one of the biggest impressions on the league in his first career game with two punt returns for touchdowns one for 98 and the other for 100 yards as Waterloo defeated Windsor 54-33 for their first win in two years.
Andrews and Perak were absolute forces for the Warriors on both lines and showed their physical prowess game in and game out. Both were key pieces to the turnaround year for the black and gold and have bright futures with the program for years to come.
