Box Score 2 The women's volleyball team put together a hard fought weekend but came up short in losses to Nipissing and York. It was the final road trip of 2017 for the black and gold and unfortunately could not gain any momentum going into their final match next weekend at home.
On Friday in North Bay, Waterloo won the opening set 26-24 but dropped the next three 24-26, 18-25, 23-25.
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) was an absolute force for the Warriors with 17 kills, 16 digs and two service aces in the match.
Serene Otshudi had eight kills while
Kayla Wierts (Drayton/) put away seven. Rookie setter
Katrine Eistrat (Toronto/) finished with 27 assists.
On Saturday against York, Waterloo battled a gritty Lions squad in a match that went the distance but the Warriors dropped the fifth and final set 15-8. Wierts led the Warriors with 17.5 points on 15 kills, one service ace and three assisted blocks.
Mackenzie was next with 12.5 points while
Kelsey Caza (Waterloo/) finished with 10 including an impressive seven blocks.
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) got most of the playing time as the starting setter and finished with 31 assists. Defensively
Sarah Remedios (Ajax/) dug up 19 balls in a strong losing effort.
The 3-5 Warriors will close out 2017 with a home match against the undefeated Ryerson Rams (6-0) next Saturday (Nov. 15) at the PAC. Game time is set for 6pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv
