Box Score After a dominating win to open up their 2017-18 season the Warriors faced a tough test in their second match of the season as they battled the 2017 OUA finalist, Western Mustangs.
Waterloo gave Western a tough challenge in the early going and the black and gold managed to take the opening set 25-19. The visitors however came back strong to take the second set 25-17.
he third set was evenly played and could have went either way but Western managed to take it 25-23, taking any hopes of a victory away from Waterloo. Western took the fourth set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
Western finished with 53 team kills in the win while Waterloo put away 36. Defensively the visiting Mustangs dug up 55 balls while Waterloo had 43 digs.
Kayla Wierts (Drayton/) led the Warriors with 14 points on 10 kills and four blocks.
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) finished with nine kills and eight digs while rookie
Jenna Gravina (Burlington/) had another strong night with eight kills and six digs.
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) finished with 23 assists while also notching three service aces.
Western was led by Kelsey Veltman with 15 kills while setter Kat Tsiofas had 41 assists.
Waterloo will now prepare for their school day game this Thursday at 11am against Brock. Over 600 elementary aged children are expected to fill the PAC for the contest.
