Waterloo's men's and women's swim teams completed a tough weekend of training and racing with some solid results. Practice on Saturday morning was followed by racing at Brock on Saturday evening and getting up on the blocks again on Sunday morning at Laurier. The point of the exercise was to mimic the back to back efforts that will be required over the three day OUA Championship coming up in only 10 days at the University of Toronto.Â
Â
Results were mixed, as is expected at this time of year. Both the men and women won their meets through the weekend as a great kickoff to the championship season. Laurier's women have been ranked in the top 10 nationally this year and McMaster always has a strong squad so beating them this close to OUs is encouraging.Â
Â
There were a couple of usually unheralded Warriors that posted excellent results.
Karolyn Mackowiak (Richmond Hill) posted best times throughout the weekend with her biggest drop coming in the 200 free on Sunday.
Sydney Dysart (Newmarket) joined in the party with some excellent results on both Saturday and Sunday.Â
Â
Winners on Sunday against McMaster and Laurier for the Warriors included Emmy Kucheran in the 400 IM,
Scott Earle (Mississauga) in the 400 IM,
Michael Jans (Georgetown) in the 200 back,
Josie Andres (Thorndale) in the 50 free and 100 fly,
Kieran Waterous (Kamloops) in the 200 IM,
Olivia Kelly (Oshawa) in the 50 breast,
Jonathan Ramkissoon (Trinidad) in the 50 breast,
Aidan Chow (Aurora) in the 100 fly,
Zao Chen (Ottawa) in the 200 free,
Linda Wang (Oakville) in the 200 fly and
Kaan Alsan (Markham) in the 200 fly. An real team effort with positive results coming on many fronts.Â
Â
OUA champs start on Thursday, February 9 and run through to Saturday, February 11. This is followed by the U Sport national champs two weeks later in Sherbrooke, Quebec to finish up the varsity season.Â
