On Sunday Waterloo played a 'friendly' match against Queen's. Though the Gaels are not officially part of the OUA, they provided the Warriors with valuable match play. The Warriors, experimenting with their doubles teams, lost the doubles point but that was all they were to give up as they went on to sweep the singles. Rookies Lazar Vukoje (Guelph), DJ Fenerty and Matt Gibson continue to impress with solid wins over the weekend.

The Warriors are in action against York October 1 at home against York and on the road on October 2 to face the Western Mustangs.

Women's Tennis
Waterloo 5, Brock 2

The women Warriors were without three of their team members on Saturday, two succumbing to stomach illness and one incurring a back injury during warm up practice. Despite having to default one of the two doubles matches, the remaining two teams won their matches thus gaining the doubles point.  Warriors were one short in the singles but they won four of the five singles played thereby earning a victory despite being short-handed.

The match of the evening was won by Trish Abraham who came from behind to eke out a win with the last two sets being decided by tie-breaks. Rookie Kerry Ann Cheung who had been having success in doubles made her singles debut on Saturday which didn't go her way. The rookie has an attacking style of play which will serve her in good stead in the future.  Another rookie, Nancy Baloescu (Kitchener) who plays at #1 have been leading the way for the women.

Doubles:
Nancy Baloescu (Kitchener) & Lupita Widyasanti (New Westminster) bt Claire Alexander & Nicole Jordan 8-3
Colleen Fernandes (Mississauga) & Daniela Castro lost by default to Dana Dahmoray & Kalyna McIntosh
Trish Abraham & Kerry Ann Cheung bt Jessica Barton & Taylor Plume 8-6

Singles:
Balosescu bt Jordan 6-0, 6-2
Fernandes bt Alexander 6-2, 6-0
Widyasanti bt McIntosh 6-1, 6-1
Abraham bt Dahmoray 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (6)
Cheung lost to Barton 1-6, 5-7

Queen's 5, Waterloo 2

The Warriors lost against the Gaels but much needed match practice was gained.  The Warriors started well by winning the doubles point and continuing their remarkable streak of winning the doubles point since the season began. Singles, though, was a different story as the Warriors were able to achieve just one victory and that was off the racquet of Waterloo's  #1 player rookie Nancy Baloescu (Kitchener).  Two other matches at #5 and #6 went the distance but both fell short in the end; the quickly- improving rookie Kerry Ann Cheung featuring in one of them.

The Warriors are hosting York October 1 and then traveling to London to play the Western Mustangs on October 2.

Doubles:
Nancy Baloescu (Kitchener) & Colleen Fernandes (Mississauga) bt Zoe Sullivan & Anastasia Karpacheva  8-3
Nancy Wu & Jessie Cui lost to Sammy Kronick & Caroline Garron  4-8
Trish Abraham & Kerry Ann Cheung bt Jessica Barford & Laura Sedelberger  8-4

Singles:
Baloescu bt Kronick 7-5, 6-2
Fernandes lost to Garron 4-6, 6-3
Wu lost to Karpacheva 6-3, 6-0
Abraham lost to Catie Camer 6-4, 6-1
Cui lost to Sullivan 6-4, 2-6, 6-10
Cheung lost to Blandine Charveriat 7-5, 6-7, 6-10
