Box Score The Warriors lost their sixth straight game on Friday night in Guelph, losing to the Gryphons in four sets (13-25, 25-20, 18-25, 17-25). With the loss, Waterloo dropped to 4-11 on the season while Guelph improved to 7-9.
The Gryphons put away 44 kills compared to 37 for the Warriors but it was the net play that made the difference for the home side as Guelph put up 16 blocks compared to just eight for the Warriors. Waterloo also had 23 errors in the contest while Guelph had 18.
Claire Mackenzie (North Vancouver) and
Sammie Gwozdz (Waterloo) each reach double digits in kills with 11 and 10 respectively while
Casey Clunas (Harriston) put away eight up the middle. Defensively
Alyson Colpitts (Fredericton) had 11 digs while libero
Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge) was busy with 15. Second year setter
Karly Smith (Lockport) finished with 32 assists in the loss.
It was a balanced attack for the Gryphons as three different players had nine kills with Jessica Gormley also adding four blocks. Becky Breau was solid from the service line with three aces. Defensively it was all Kristen Almhjell for the Gryphons who had 27 digs in the match.
Waterloo will have the rest of the week off before taking on Nipissing in North Bay next Saturday and then York in Toronto on Sunday.
