Box Score It was home sweet home for the women's volleyball team who got in the win column for the first time this season taking out Guelph in four sets. With the win Waterloo improves to 1-2 while Guelph falls to 1-3.
After dropping the opening set 25-22, the Warriors took over the match winning the next three sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-19. Overall Waterloo finished the match with 45 kills on 140 attacks while Guelph put away 39 attacks.
Leading the way for Waterloo was
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver) who racked up 13 kills and
Casey Clunas (Harriston) who had herself a night up the middle with 11 kills, four blocks and three service aces to finish the match with a game high 16.5 points. Also playing a key role at the net was
Kelsey Caza (Waterloo) who added four blocks of her own.
Other Warriors getting in on the attack was
Alyson Colpitts (Fredericton) (9 kills and 2 blocks) and
Kayla Wierts (Drayton) (6 kills and 4 blocks). Rookie setter
Claire Gagne (Cambridge) was very impressive in her home debut looking poised and confident all match long with 37 assists while playing sound defence with 11 digs.
For Guelph it was Victoria Golebiowski doing most of the damage with 14 kills while Maddie Dedecker had six.
Waterloo will be back in action next weekend with a pair of matches at home against Queen's (Friday) and RMC (Saturday). Both are at 6pm and will be broadcasted live on OUA.tv.
