Box Score The Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team dominated the Brock Badgers on Thursday night in virtually every aspect of the game, except the one that matters – the scoreboard.
Badgers goaltender Clint Windsor made 45 saves, and Andrew Radjenovic had two points, including the overtime winner, lifting Brock to a 2-1 victory in extra time at the Columbia Ice Field arena.
Michael Siddall (St. Mary's) scored Waterloo's only goal for the second straight game, as the Warriors fall to 1-2-1 on the season. Mike Morrison (Hamilton) turned away 28 shots in the loss, despite making some highlight-reel saves.
The Warriors had the bulk of pick possession throughout the evening, and controlled the play for long stretches of time. But it was Windsor that made the difference, especially late in the game - Waterloo outshot Brock 20-10 in the third period, but Windsor held the Warriors off the scoreboard.
After a scoreless first, the Warriors drew first blood early in the second when Sam Caldwell (Cape Breton) directed a writer from the point into the traffic in front of Windsor. Siddall pounced on their loose puck and deposited the rebound for Waterloo's first goal of the season on home ice. Ryan Hanes (Kanata) drew the other assist on the Siddall marker.
The Warriors held onto their lead until early in the third, when Matt MacLeod slammed home a one-time feed from Radjenovic on the power play to even things up at 1-1. Despite being outplayed in the final frame, Brock had a chance to win it late on a Radjenovic breakaway, but Morrison stoned him to force the game into extra time.
The four-on-four OT period was all Badgers, though, and Radjenovic played keepaway for much of his shift before taking advantage of a Waterloo turnover to win it – he snapped a bullet to the blocker side of Morrison to give the Badgers the extra point on the night.
Waterloo will now look to halt a two-game losing streak when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon, October 22, at the Laurier Brantford campus. Puck drop from the Brantford Civic Centre is slated for 4pm, and the game will be broadcast on oua.tv.
