Box Score The Waterloo women's volleyball team started off 2016 with a hard fought 3-1 loss to the Windsor Lancers on Friday night on the road.
Windsor took the opening two sets 25-19, 25-18 before the Warriors battled back in the third, winning it 29-27 to extend the contest. The two combatants went back in forth in the fourth set and Windsor walked away with a tight 26-24 victory to claim the match.
With the win, the Lancers improved to 6-4 and sit in third in the OUA west while Waterloo fell to 4-7 and are tied with Lakehead for the fifth spot.
Leading the way for the Warriors in the loss was rookie outside hitter
Alyson Colpitts (Fredericton) who had 15 kills and two blocks while Clare Mackenzie added 11 kills.
Brooklyn Gallant (Cambridge) also contributed in the attack with eight kills and 14 digs. Defensively
Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge) was strong with 24 digs.
For Windsor it was Emily McClosky who lifted her squad with 13 kills and five blocks. Carleigh Bailey had 12 kills while Jade Ziebarth had 10 while adding 16 digs.
Waterloo will look to rebound today in London as they take on the Western Mustangs at 1pm. Western is in second spot in the west with a 7-2 record.
