Box Score 2 After learning that they had been officially eliminated from the playoff picture following a heart breaking 5-set loss to Lakehead, the women's volleyball team put forth a gutsy effort the very next night topping the Thunderwolves in four sets (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23).
The Warriors ended their season with a 5-14 record winning three of their final six games. Lakehead wrapped up their campaign with the identical record with both combatants missing the post-season.
Western was able to sneak in to the final playoff spot with their 14 points and will take on McMaster in the OUA west semifinals while Brock and Guelph make-up the other west semi.
Head coach
Richard Eddy used all of his players in Waterloo's win over Lakehead, showing that the black and gold are deep heading into next season.
Leading the way was
Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo) who put away seven kills while adding 10 digs and five blocks. Rookie left side
Mila Kostic-Damnjanovic (Calgary) was also contributing factor with seven kills and an impressive 22 digs.
Defensively
Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge) was outstanding posting 36 digs while
Casey Clunas (Harriston) was big at the net with nine blocks. Rounding out Waterloo's stellar team performance was
Emily Needles (Thorndale) with her 23 assists.
The young Warrior squad proved their talent and Warrior pride down the stretch and fans of the women's volleyball team have a lot to look forward to next season.
