Box Score The women's volleyball dropped to 3-4 on the season after a straight sets defeat to the visiting Windsor Lancers on Friday night at the PAC. Waterloo now sits in a tie for fourth spot while Windsor moved up into first place in the OUA west with a 5-2 record.
After dropping the first set 26-24, the Warriors confidence seemed to take a hit as Windsor would take the next two sets in a more convincing fashion, 25-14, 25-21.
In the opening set, Waterloo jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an
Emily Ibbotson (Cambridge) kill to open the match and four straight points from
Claire Mackenzie (North Vancouver) at the service line. The Lancers would however claw their way back to even the set at seven apiece.
Strong serving continued to propel the Warriors throughout the set as the black and gold jumped out to a 24-22 lead and the finish line in sight but the Lancers had other ideas. A few hitting errors by Waterloo and two setter dumps by Lauren Stirling gave Windsor four straight points to take the set 26-24.
From there the Warriors could not regroup as Stirling and middle blocker Shannon Dean led Windsor to take the next two sets. Stirling finished the game with 23 assists while Dean had eight kills and three blocks. Emily McCloskey was also strong from the middle with seven kills in the match.
For Waterloo,
Alyson Colpitts (Fredericton) tallied the most points with 10 on her nine kills and two assisted blocks. Mackenzie finished with six kills and three service aces while
Kayla Wierts (Drayton) and Ibbotson also had six kills each.
Emily Needles (Thorndale) was solid with 25 assists and 12 digs in a losing effort.
The Warriors will be back to the PAC tomorrow night for their final game of a six game home stand against the Western Mustangs. Game time is set for 6pm.
