Box Score The Waterloo Warriors men's volleyball team is peaking at the right time.
Gibson Graham (Markham) had 43 assists, and three Warriors had ten or more kills, as Waterloo won their fifth match in a row with a straight-sets victory (25-19, 30-28, 25-17) over the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night.
The win, Waterloo's tenth in their past 11 matches, moves the Warriors to 13-5 on the season, and into a tie for 2nd in the OUA with the Ryerson Rams. It also sets up a showdown of the two hottest teams in the province, as the Warriors host the top-ranked McMaster Marauders on Saturday night at the PAC gym.
The Warriors were in control almost from the first serve of the game, save for an eventful second set that saw Waterloo make 12 errors to Guelph's 0. However, the Warriors used a strong frontline attack, led by 16 kills and 19 points from Braden Cok (Waterloo), to topple the Gryphons in straight sets. Guelph now sits in 7th place in the OUA with an 8-10 record.
The Warriors can now turn their focus on the nation's best team, and the biggest test of the season for the young Waterloo squad. The Marauders are 16-1 overall, with 16 straight victories, with 15 coming in straight sets. The last time McMaster lost a set was in a 3-1 victory over York on October 31, and their set record sits at 50-4 on the season.
The Warriors are up for the challenge though, and they'll look to avenge a straight-sets loss suffered in Hamilton back on November 7. Game time is set for 8pm at the PAC tonight and the game can be seen live on www.oua.tv.
