The Warriors hosted the Western Mustangs Sunday afternoon in what was an incredibly competitive match with many hard fought battles. Waterloo's
Megan Colwell (Spencerville) had another consistently dominate game adding 10 points for her team while
Erika Schroeder (New Dundee),
Elisabeth Smith (Victoria), and
Lauren Mueller (Mississauga) all added tries. Waterloo won the match 25-10 to cap off reunion weekend.
The Mustangs opened the scoring when Breanna Nicholas scored a penalty goal in the opening minutes to give the purple and white an early 3-0 lead. The Warriors' offensive catalyst Colwell would score the first major of the game in the 22
nd minute but would miss the convert to take the 5-3 lead.
Western wouldn't waste any time rebounding when Nikki Case added a try a few minutes later off a great run through the Warriors back line. Nicholas would make the convert to push the score to 10-5 and send the game to half time.
To open the second half Dagmar Wallsten would make a great run but would be taken down just shy of the major on the 3-yard line. The Warriors would head back down the field and settle for a penalty goal from Colwell to shorten the lead to 10-8 for the Mustangs.
Schroeder would take matters into her own hands and push through the Western backs, earning her first try of the game. The convert was missed but the Warriors took their first lead of the game by a score of 13-10.
Mueller would add a try for the Warriors in the last three minutes followed by a determined Smith making a tantalizing run through the middle of the pitch before scoring her first try of the season. The Warriors would close out the game winning 25-10 in what was a very back-and-forth game.
The black and gold will travel up the street to play Laurier next Saturday at 1pm. Crucial points will be on the line as the Warriors could finish atop the division with a victory and help throughout the league.
