2013-14 marks the 40th anniversary of the crowning season for Warriors hockey – Waterloo's first and only University Cup national championship victory. With archival help fromImprint
, the official student newspaper of the University of Waterloo, you can relive every step of the 1973-74 championship team, just as it was experienced by Warriors nation four decades ago. Every Thursday during the fall and winter terms, gowarriorsgo.ca will be presenting an original story from The Chevron
(which later became Imprint)
, documenting the Warriors men's hockey team's march to the title.
If the exam and holiday break slowed down the 1973-74 Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team, their opponents sure couldn't tell.
The Warriors travelled south of the border in late December of 1973 to take part in an exhibition tournament in Oswego, New York, and laid waste to all comers - Waterloo outscored their opponents 29-3 in the three-game series. When they returned home for their first exhibition match of 1974 against the York Yeomen, the goals kept coming.
