The Warrior field hockey squad found their first win of the season with a 4-1 win over McGill on Sunday morning at Warrior Field. Waterloo scored four unanswered goals to cruise past McGill and even their record at 1-1.
Kaylee Lock-O'Connor (Hamilton/) was solid between the pipes in her first appearance of the season while four different Warriors got on the score sheet.
After McGill opened the scoring off the stick of Sarah Main's in the 19
th minute mark the Warriors found their legs and shifted the momentum back in their favour.
Caitlin Huber (Waterloo/) would pot her first goal of the season in the 27
th minute off of a short corner and the teams would be even at one's at half.
Waterloo would take a 2-1 lead in the 40
th minute as captain
Melissa Lewis (Waterloo/) capitalized on a Waterloo bounce putting it past the McGill keeper.
The Warriors would continue their relentless pressure the remaining 30 minutes and they would be rewarded with two more balls finding their way to the back of McGill's net.
Stephanie Snyder (Waterloo/) and
Emily Thomson (Oliver/) would each fire home their first goals of the season to secure the 4-1 win for the black and gold.
In their afternoon game the Warriors would be worn down by an always competitive Toronto Varsity side dropping the game 5-0 to close out the opening weekend with a 1-2 record.
Waterloo will travel to Toronto next weekend for a pair of games with York and Western on Varsity Stadium Field.
